A drawing a day to keep the psychiatrist away…?

Ok, I don’t see a psychiatrist (not that their’s anything wrong with that), but my creative block, that has lasted far too long, is making me feel like Alvy friggin’ Singer!

I know that those who have been in my shoes feel me. Whether you’re a writer, painter, designer or any other creative, a block can feel like someone has sucked the talent (you could have sworn you had) right out of you and left you to dry out in a bland, bland world of white canvas and blank pages. The nerve!

So, I am done waiting for my inspiration to return and I am hunting it down! Thanks to an Etsy article that I read this week, I have decided to start a project called “Year of the Girl” – 365 gals to be complete in a year son! I am forcing myself to create a girl a day (I will use different methods and materials to get there) and I have a good feeling that this will get me back in my groove. I will post my images here and on Facebook to document my progress.

The best thing about this decision is that it has made me feel in control. When you start to spiral down that creative-less cesspool, you can begin to feel that you are drowning and completely powerless over your own future. I suggest that all artists read this article, keep it and bring that baby out when you’re feeling that overwhelming feeling of panic and desperation that is “The Block”. And always remember that your talent is still there, it’s just hiding (what a jerk) and with a little coaxing, through daily projects, it won’t be able to resist the urge to come out and play.

Happy 2012 everyone! Let’s do this!
